Prime Minister Mikhail Michoustin announced on Thursday during a video conference with President Vladimir Putin that he was infected, while Russia crossed the thresholds of 100,000 people infected and 1,000 dead. He was hospitalized in solitary confinement, and his deputy Andreï Belooussov was appointed acting Prime Minister by Vladimir Putin.
Russia currently registers 114,431 officially recorded Covid-19 cases and 1,169 deaths, most of them in Moscow, its region and in Saint Petersburg, the country's second city. Vladimir Putin said Tuesday the situation was " difficult ", believing that the peak of infections had not yet been reached. However, it considered possible a gradual lifting of containment from May 12 depending on the region.
