Restorations resume next week at eleven historic monument sites

2020-05-01T18:14:26.231Z

The Center for National Monuments has announced the resumption of certain sites which have been shutdown since March 17. Among them, that of the Hôtel de la Marine in Paris, and that of Villers-Cotterêts in the Aisne.

Without making noise, and still partially, the activity of restoration of historic monuments resumes. Since April 27, at Notre-Dame de Paris, a small team has set up the conditions for working in accordance with health regulations. Place de la Concorde, the Center des monuments nationaux (CMN) has started to clear the same ground - that of the organization of work by time of Covid-19- on the site of the Hôtel de la Marine. At the other end of France, it is the church of the monastery of Saorge (Alpes-Maritimes) in, which has already returned to work .

" We must contribute to the support and recovery of businesses in the heritage sector," said Philippe Bélaval, president of the CMN. The sector should indeed be very affected by the crisis: private owners of historic monuments, who have not seen a single visitor for two months, risk shifting or even canceling their maintenance work. As for communities, the temptation will be great to abandon the heritage in favor of social or health. For CMN, you also have to beat the iron while it is hot. Apart from the Hôtel de la Marine and Notre-Dame de Paris, these projects are financed by public funds, which have been voted for this year.

Completely shutdown since March 17, many yards were waiting for a signal to continue what had been started, the scaffolding having been erected, or the contracts awarded. If the Ministry of Labor had wanted everything to resume as soon as possible, it was not until the catering companies were ready - some did not want, at the outset, not to endanger the health of their employees. "The recovery will be done in compliance with the recommendations of the construction prevention body, says one to the CMN. Priority was given to operations that could take place in the open air, as well as those that were nearing completion. ”

From May 4, it will be the turn of the castle of Villers-Cotterêts (Aisne), a presidential site intended to become a Cité de la Francophonie, to start again. Follow the restorations of the park of the Château de Maisons in Maisons-Laffitte (Yvelines), the facades of the Château de Bouges (Indre), the King's Pavilion, the Château d'Oiron (Deux-Sèvres) or the covers of the Château de Carrouges ( Orne), an operation to consolidate the dykes of the Corot ponds in Ville-d'Avray (Hauts-de-Seine), the remediation of the Ensérune oppidum (Hérault), the restoration of the upper parts of the Châteaudun castle (Eure-et-Loir) or that of the Italian wing of the Castelnau-Bretenoux castle (Lot).
