According to figures released Sunday by the Ministry of Health, the total number of deaths due to the pandemic is now 25,264, making Spain the 4th most bereaved country in the world after the United States, Italy and the United Kingdom. The number of deaths recorded in the past 24 hours is the lowest since March 18, when 107 deaths were recorded.

But this figure should be interpreted with " caution " because the transmission by hospitals of death figures is traditionally slower during long weekends like that of May 1, warned the director of the center of health alerts, Fernando Simon. The figures are very good and confirm the trend observed. We have to see if they are confirmed in the coming days, "he said at a press conference.

In addition, 838 new confirmed cases of Covid-19 disease have been recorded, bringing the total number of infections since 217,466 since the start of the epidemic.

The approximately 47 million inhabitants of Spain have been subjected since March 14 to one of the strictest containment regimes in the world.

Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez unveiled a plan for gradual easing of restrictions on April 28, comprising four phases spanning the end of June. Since Saturday, Spaniards have been allowed to leave their homes once a day to go for a walk or practice physical activity.
