Actually, Bralia's president Jair Bolsonaro wanted a friend of the family to become the new head of the federal police. But that was prevented by the country's highest court. Now the important office has been filled differently.

Brasília (dpa) - The bitter dispute between President Jair Bolsonaro and the Brazilian judiciary over the filling of the top post of the Federal Police has ended.

Bolsonaro appointed Rolando de Souza, who is close to his original candidate Alexandre Ramagem. The appointment emerged from the "Diário Oficial", a kind of official gazette.

The Supreme Court had stopped Bolsonaro's preferred friend Ramagem, a friend of the family, after Justice Minister Sergio Moro accused the president of exerting political influence on the federal police. Bolsonaro had previously fired their boss, a confidante of Moro. The police were reportedly charged with two politically active sons of the president.

The Supreme Court opened a case against Bolsonaro over Moro's allegations, which has already lost popular support and approval due to his sluggish handling of the Covid 19 pandemic. The number of corona infected people in Brazil has risen to more than 100,000, and 7106 people infected with the virus have died so far.
