A gendarme was injured in the night from Sunday to Monday by a biker who voluntarily struck him at François, in the south-east of Martinique during a checkout in full curfew, we learned on Monday with firefighters and the gendarmerie.

According to the firefighters, who intervened around 11:00 p.m., the 33-year-old gendarme was conscious when he was taken care of. He suffers from a head trauma and other minor injuries. He was taken to the emergency room in Fort-de-France. According to the gendarmerie, his last exams are reassuring. The biker is always in demand.

This aggression comes at a time when Martinique observes a curfew every night from 8:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m., a prefectoral decision in the context of the fight against the Covid-19 epidemic. Martinique lists 181 reported cases and 14 deaths as of May 3.

Police on Thursday had already been targeted by an individual rushing at them in a car. He was a violent man whose partner had called the authorities. No one was injured at the time, but the police had to open fire to arrest him. The man had been taken into police custody.
