One of the topics that were left out of the forefront due to the advance of the coronavirus pandemic was the situation of retirees, particularly the increase that they should receive soon, for which a new mobility formula was to be developed that It will replace the one suspended in December.

However, and after the one applied in February, the Government will increase pension benefits again by decree, according to the head of the Cabinet, Santiago Cafiero, announced this Monday.

"The increase to retirees is going to start working and is going to come out by decree in June. It is working in the economic Cabinet, it has many edges and components. By the end of May we will already have the number of the increase," he assured.

In February, President Alberto Fernández established by decree an increase from March of 2.3% plus a fixed amount of $ 1,500. Meanwhile, family allowances had an increase of 13% over the current amounts and ranges.

In December, through the official economic emergency project, the Government suspended for 180 days the application of the mobility formula for retirement, pensions and social benefits, a period in which a new formula had to be developed. Meanwhile, the Executive Branch was empowered to grant the increases to these sectors, which covers 18 million people.

In this context, in December and January, the Government granted an extraordinary subsidy of $ 5,000 for retirees who received the minimum and also for those who received a little more than that value, as well as for the beneficiaries of the Universal Child Allowance. , "with the aim of accompanying and caring for the most vulnerable and neediest sectors of society," as they argued at that time.
