Paris-Roubaix will indeed have its female equivalent, on October 25, at the opening of the prestigious classic cyclist, in a season turned upside down by the coronavirus pandemic. The race, set up by ASO (Amaury Sport Organization) also organizer of the Tour de France, is the great novelty of the 2020 calendar revised after the cascade of postponements and cancellations caused by the various state measures linked to the coronavirus. In this calendar published this Tuesday by the International Cycling Union (UCI), the Tour de France, scheduled from August 29 to September 20, will take place as planned before the other two major tours, with also five "monuments" and 25 events at total.

On October 25, Paris-Roubaix will therefore have two versions since the women will take part of the route before the men. The "queen of the classics" thus joins several other great classics, notably the Tour of Flanders (since 2004) and Liège-Bastogne-Liège (2017) which already have a female version. In the circle of "monuments", the greatest classics by their importance, their mileage and their history, only the two Italian races, Milan-Sanremo and the Tour of Lombardy, are waiting to have a female counterpart. The first, called Primavera rosa, had attempted an experiment in 1999 before ending it in 2005. The practical details of Paris-Roubaix (departure, precise route) remain to be defined.
