A small qualitative project launched by the young Abdul Rahman Al-Masry through the establishment of a vegetable vegetable farm on the roof of his building, amid great insistence on challenging the difficulties of economic life and the high cost of living that resulted after two years of hard work to the stage of high productivity thanks to the successful management and determination to overcome difficulties Faced with this extraordinary work.

The Egyptian, who is studying in the last year at the Faculty of Civil Engineering at the University of Damascus, confirmed to the Sana Youth Newsletter that he had long researched the idea of an income-generating economic project that does not need large capital, so he chose agriculture at low costs that are in line with his financial situation especially that this project from his point of view is a project that is capable To develop and expand over time and support the national economy at the same time.

He pointed out that he paved his project with a series of home experiments that consumed money, time and effort that were broken by plants of disappointment, failure and learning before reaching a stage in which he was able to obtain real products, which encouraged him to transfer the idea from home to the ground.

Abdel-Rahman launched his agricultural project on the roof of the building that includes his house, where he climbs seven floors daily to reach the vegetable farm he established on the roof of one of the tall buildings in the area of Beit Sahm, south of Damascus, with an area not exceeding 65 square meters. It is an agricultural facility designed and executed from A to Z. Today it produces approximately 35 tons of vegetables annually through 1,200 seedlings.

He pointed out that he uses the method of hydroponics, which provides 70 percent of the water used by traditional methods and gives ten times more production than traditional, with the ability to invest mainly areas and areas that are not investable in addition to that its fruits have a distinct flavor and high specifications comparable to traditional agriculture.

Al-Masry explained that the hydroponics system he adopts is based on placing agricultural seedlings within an alternative medium for the soil in order to protect the root of the plant and preserve its moisture, then the water is passed after adding fertilizers at a certain percentage to the roots so that the plant absorbs it so that the water returns to the tanks through a closed cycle.

The roofs of buildings are the most areas that can be invested without causing any inconvenience to anyone, according to Al-Masry’s opinion. At the same time, they give an aesthetic view of the buildings and provide food for the construction residents throughout the year, thus reducing the costs of renting agricultural lands.

The Egyptian aspires to expand his project by investing in larger areas that can give more production that has an impact on the local market so that excellent crops can be produced at lower prices than traditional agriculture because of the low costs of this type of agriculture in particular.

And the Egyptian concluded his speech by saying .. The facility includes all kinds of seedlings except trees, where you can grow zucchini, eggplant, cucumber, tomatoes, lettuce, mint and other such vegetables, which are essential components in the Syrian table, which increases the importance of this facility if it is expanded.
