In Argentina the death toll from covid-19 rises to 264, with 5,020 cases

(CNN Spanish) - The Argentine Ministry of Health confirmed this Wednesday that the country registers 264 deaths from covid-19, with a total of 5,020 cases, of which 836 correspond to health personnel.

In a statement, the Ministry also said that 143 people are hospitalized in intensive care and 1,524 were discharged. So far, a total of 72,315 samples have been made with a positivity rate of 8.39%.

The Secretary of Access to Health, Carla Vizzotti, reported that 36% of the cases are people between 30 and 39 years old, 63% are women.

Of the intensive care patients, there are 25 who have a history of being health workers, the official said. Within this group, the recovered are 260 and 9 are deceased; 8 had risk factors.

Vizzotti also gave details of the operations that are being carried out both in the city and in the province of Buenos Aires in what they called the Strategic Testing Device for Coronavirus in the Territory of Argentina (DETeCTAr), "intended for the active search for feverish people in vulnerable neighborhoods ”.

This Tuesday in the city of Quilmes 50 blocks were surveyed with 1,857 homes and 7,932 inhabitants. Ten symptomatic individuals were identified, and swab samples were removed. The operation continued this Wednesday in an expanded area, with visits to the contacts of the confirmed cases and the suspects.

In the Padre Mugica neighborhood of the city of Buenos Aires, 158 homes were visited and some 496 people were interviewed, and samples were extracted from 38 of them. Of the 16 samples processed so far, 9 were positive.
