INTERVIEW - The president of the Flammarion editions Anna Pavlowitch wanted to set up a charity operation which allows donations to caregivers by purchasing books devoted to these new "heroes in white".

The “Read to treat” initiative launched by Flammarion was born in the head of its president, Anna Pavlowitch, at the start of confinement, on March 16.

"With my son," she recalls , "we applauded at the window these caregivers who had become in a few weeks the" heroes in white "of a confined nation. My son was trying to understand who was hiding behind this formula. Like many, he also wanted to do more than just applaud. ”

A library of 50 books to understand the "heroes in white"

Concretely, in partnership with the Fondation des Hôpitaux de Paris-Hôpitaux de France, Flammarion has built up a library of 50 books, contemporary novels ( The Exercise of Medicine , by Laurent Seksik), classics ( L'Amour docteur, de Molière, Gargantua de Rabelais…), essays ( Behind the white blouse , by Stéphanie Fugain…) or surveys ( Marseille, 2040 , by Philippe Pujol).

As soon as one of these books is downloaded from online bookstore sites such as leslibraires.fr, placedeslibraires.fr or on fnac.com, publisher profits are donated to the Paris Hospitals Foundation.

"This operation will last until mid-July," concludes Anna Pavlowitch. We are working on the possibility of relaying this charitable initiative through physical bookstores with the “click and collect” system. I am convinced that books - like medicine - are the foundation of social ties. More than ever, reading makes it possible to understand, explain and offer knowledge… ”
