Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez warned today that the Coved 19 epidemic still poses a threat coinciding with the authorities' tendency to ease their strict closures.
"I ask you to show as much caution and prudence as possible because the virus has not gone away and is still here," Sanchez was quoted as saying.
Spain, which is among the countries most affected by the virus, plans to exit in stages from closure until the end of June, as it will allow about half of its population of 47 million to resume their social life to a limited extent starting from Monday, while restaurants will provide some external services.
Concerned that the number of infections will rise again if the restrictions are lifted quickly, the authorities decided that the first stage will not include the capital Madrid and Barcelona, the two regions most affected by the virus.
Spain recorded about 26,478 deaths and 224,000 cases of corona.
Injuries and deaths have declined dramatically in recent weeks, prompting the government to declare its readiness to ease some restrictions in an attempt to restore the country's social and economic life to normal as possible.
