The daughter of 78-year-old Melvina Haimovich Nedler, who perished in a fire tonight (Monday) in the city, has trouble digesting the news of her death.

"My mother was just good," said Esther Frida Elul. "There was absolute good in her, and it is rare nowadays that there is such a good. She was a good mother and constantly worked only for the children. A humble and good woman. It's really a loss."

Elul shared that her mother, a Holocaust survivor, immigrated to Israel from Romania when she was a girl. She knew her husband Eliezer in Israel and after their marriage, the two settled in Maalot. The couple had seven children and dozens of grandchildren.

Elul said her mother had a stroke about seven years ago and was bedridden. Since then, a foreign therapist has been eating her.

"Because of the Corona, I didn't see her for three months. I was afraid to catch up with my parents their age," Elul said. "I didn't want to take any chances that they would stick to something, and unfortunately I didn't say goodbye to Mom. I prefer to remember her as she was before she got sick. It's sad and shocking, she didn't really get out of the world in that way. The house is completely burned. It's delusional. I'm shocked, we're all shocked."

In the fire, Nedler's husband was seriously injured and their residence also evacuated a woman in her 30s and a toddler about two years old.

Shaked Ankonina and Eran Friedlander, MDA paramedics, said: "When we arrived on the scene, we saw thick smoke coming out of apartments in a four-story residential building, the firefighters operating there rescuing us four casualties: an 80-year-old woman who was unconscious, burned, breathless and without a pulse . We performed medical examinations, she was without signs of life and we had to determine her death; A 80-year-old man was rescued with full consciousness and suffered significant smoke inhalation. We gave him life-saving medical care and urgently evacuated him to the hospital when his condition was difficult and stable. In addition, we also evacuated a woman and toddler as two-year-olds who inhale smoke and their condition is slightly defined. "
