It is an absolutely sordid story. And desperate. This Monday morning, a 63-year-old male caregiver is in police custody for rape of a vulnerable person with aggravating circumstances.
Sunday, at the end of the day, a crew of the BAC (anti-crime brigade) of the 12th police station landed in the Ehpad (accommodation establishment for dependent elderly) "Les Arcades" of the Korian group, located rue Dausmenil (12th) , between the Gare de Lyon and the Parc de Bercy. It was the director of the establishment who called them following a frantic report from a nursing assistant.
The hospitalized victim
An employee, a nursing aide, was discovered in a room. He had just raped one of the residents. The 92-year-old old lady, "presenting a very strong loss of autonomy", specifies a source close to the file, was in absolute shock. She was treated by the firefighters and hospitalized.
When the police arrived, the alleged rapist had escaped. The officials found him in the patio of the nursing home, arrested and placed in police custody. The Paris public prosecutor's office, notified, entrusted the investigation to the 2nd D¨J (judicial police district). According to a source, the caregiver should not have been on this floor, much less in this room.
A group in difficulty
This news item will not fail to relaunch the controversy over the Korian group, which manages 308 nursing homes in France, including 60 in Île-de-France.
The rich group is singled out by families who, in the middle of the coronavirus, have complained and point out failures in care and security. They more specifically criticize him for his management of the Covid-19 health crisis. In their nursing homes alone, 606 elderly people died.
On April 3, a preliminary investigation was opened against the Korian group for "manslaughter" and "failure to assist people in danger".
Sunday evening, the old lady's family was notified by the manager. The investigation continues.

“A psychological support unit has been set up for employees and residents within the establishment. The employee was immediately laid off as a precautionary measure. A police investigation is under way. We have no details and we cannot make any comments, ”said the Korian spokesperson whom we contacted this Monday afternoon.
