Monday morning around 8:00 am, an argument broke out between the two men in an apartment in the Montboucons district in Besançon. The older man repeatedly struck the young man on the skull with a hatchet before warning the emergency services, the Besançon public prosecutor's office said, without giving details on the reason for the altercation. The victim was taken to hospital where he is brain dead, the same source added.
The forty-something man, who was not known to the courts, was arrested in his apartment and placed in police custody. He was indicted on Tuesday by an investigating judge for "attempted murder" and placed in pre-trial detention in accordance with the requisitions of the prosecution.
