Around 11:00 a.m., emergency services intervened in the house of a man with a major head wound in this town near Cherbourg, who died some time later. "Those present, a group of about seven people, of foreign nationality, had arrested the individual and had detained this man of Afghan nationality likely to be the perpetrator of the attack," Yves told AFP. Le Clair, prosecutor of Cherbourg. The man killed was involved "in an association helping migrants," said the prosecutor.

The suspect, 21, unknown to the justice system, had traces of blood on him and on his clothing. He would have hit the man with a blunt object, without there being any traces of struggle. He was taken into police custody and has yet to be heard by investigators, the same source said.
