China reaffirmed its adherence to the "one China" principle in the world and affirmed that the Taiwan region is "an integral part of Chinese territory."
"China does not need to sign a memorandum of understanding with any international organization for the return of Taiwan to China," said Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Li Jian in today's remarks.
The remarks came after the Taiwan region authorities said yesterday that the Chinese mainland signed a secret memorandum of understanding with the World Health Organization in 2005 on matters related to its region's participation in WHO activities.
According to Xinhua, Jian stressed that the participation of technical experts from the Taiwan region in the technical activities of the WHO will be a smooth process under the one-China principle, and said that the Taiwan political authority's manipulation of the disease is completely futile.
Zhao noted that 16 groups of 24 medical and health experts from the Taiwan region have participated in WHO technical activities since 2019.
