2020-05-12T22:00:06.240Z

The group should be called Ecologie Démocratie et Solidarité and will be made up of a majority of former LREM deputies.

A ninth group in the National Assembly is expected to be created next week. "It could see the light of day on Monday but more likely a little later in the week," said an elected official of the majority.

Launched on the initiative of Matthieu Orphelin, defector from La République en Marche, and member for one year of Liberties and Territories, it will be baptized Ecology Democracy and Solidarity.

"As long as we have not deposited the list, it can still be modified, lengthened, or shortened," said the member of this future group.

LREM would lose an absolute majority in the Assembly

After the creation of this group, La République en Marche would lose an absolute majority. Already weakened by the departure of 18 deputies since the start of the legislature, the group would no longer count while 284 elected against 289 for an absolute majority.

The “charter” of this parliamentary group would revolve around ecology, democracy and social and territorial inequalities. The initiative could have seen the light of day after the municipal elections, but the coronavirus crisis had stopped it altogether. Since the start of the health crisis, several LREM elected officials were indignant at the application of StopCovid tracking or the procedure imposed by the executive which, according to some, "does not allow parliamentarians, elected representatives of the nation, to organize so that each deputy can make his voice heard and vote. "Even without an absolute majority, we can count on the 46 members of the Modem and the 9 elected members of Agir," said a LREM member.

On the executive side, some even say they are relieved. "It will clarify the situation and avoid the discordant and rebellious voices that were raised too often among the majority," blows the right arm of a minister.

An opposition group, really?

While being very critical, Matthieu Orphelin did not fail to vote for the deconfinement plan presented by the Prime Minister. From there to feed all the speculations. “The head of state is struggling to gain credibility in the ecological field. This new group, with the maneuver of the former right-hand man of Nicolas Hulot (Editor's note, Matthieu Orphelin), is in fact provoked by the head of state, insinuates a macronist deputy. He can rely on him to vote on texts like the future tax on air transport and make believe in a real ecological turning point on his part. None of its members said that they wanted to register the group in the opposition. For the time being.
