The World Council of Churches and the Council of Middle East Churches called on the European Union to take a firm stand against the plans of the Israeli occupation authorities to annex the Palestinian territories.
In a joint message addressed today to the heads of European Union member states, the two councils urged to take a firm and principled position regarding the decision to annex Palestinian lands in the West Bank to the Israeli occupation entity and called for a study of the Israeli occupation step and its future repercussions.
He warned the World Council of Churches and the Council of Middle East Churches that this annexation of Palestinian lands would lead to increased injustice, the expropriation of Palestinian legal property, the escalation of tensions, regional instability and lack of respect for international law, and stressed the impossibility of promoting justice and peace in the Holy Land in light of taking such steps.
The World Council of Churches and the Council of Middle East Churches emphasized at the conclusion of the joint appeal that the European Union should not be in collusion with such steps through inaction or through an inadequate reaction to prevent the implementation of this decision.
