A serious accident occurred early Tuesday afternoon at an explosive site of a company for explosive ordnance clearance in Wernrode near Nordhausen in Thuringia. A 58-year-old employee was apparently fatally injured.
Another 52-year-old employee had to be taken to a hospital with severe injuries. After the first reports, he suffered facial injuries.

The cause of the accident is still unclear, reports the police. The criminal police and an employee of the responsible state office for consumer protection are at the scene of the accident in Wernrode near Nordhausen and are investigating the accident . The department for occupational safety is affiliated to consumer protection.
According to initial findings, the accident apparently happened in the disposal of pyrotechnics, i.e. fireworks, confirmed a spokeswoman for the police. The investigation is ongoing.
