THE QUESTION. During the explanation of his deconfinement plan, on May 7, Prime Minister Édouard Philippe assumed the government's decision not to make the wearing of masks compulsory in public space. “ It was not the choice we made. (...) When you walk alone in the street or the countryside, the mask has no immediate interest , " justified the head of government. A few seconds earlier, however, he recalled: " We considered that there were places where it was necessary to wear it, the mask being a complement to the barrier gestures". A decree published on May 11 thus indicates that"Masks must be worn systematically by everyone when the rules of physical distance cannot be guaranteed" . Since Monday, many stores and businesses have therefore logically generalized it to all their customers (and employees).
