Unprecedented seizure of drugs in Myanmar: Police forces in the country have probably captured the largest shipping ever in Asia. In a huge operation in the Golden Triangle between Myanmar, Laos and Thailand - a region that is considered a major focus of illegal trafficking and smuggling operations - the country's security authorities seized a drug delivery that included 193 million 17.5-ton Java tablets, as well as 3,700 liters of fentanyl-type liquid drug and 163 more 35.5 tonnes of drug-producing substances.
At the same time as the dramatic operation, more than 130 suspects and many weapons were arrested. Those who accompanied the operation closely and helped the local government to implement it were UNODC members - the United States Anti-Doping Agency.
In the US Bureau, they were amazed by the huge concept and called it "unprecedented." They added that "the forces in Myanmar were able at once to dismantle a large and significant drug network."
A party involved in the operation expressed concern about finding fentanyl in Asia. "This is a real game-changer," the official told Reuters. "This drug is so powerful and could have caused significant health damage throughout Myanmar and neighboring countries."
