NEWS - With the "meeting areas" introduced in many cities to encourage soft mobility, new rules of the Highway Code are imposed on users, under penalty of verbalization.

The so-called meeting areas, signposted at the entrance and at the exit of the zone delimitation, are sections of roads in built-up areas where pedestrians circulate, enjoying absolute priority over all vehicles, except for trams.

Recall that the pedestrian is defined as a person who travels on foot but other users also fall into the pedestrian category (car, sick or infirm, small vehicle without engine, people who drive a cycle or a moped by hand, the disabled who move in a wheelchair, users of rollerskates, skateboards or scooters (without motor).

They are authorized to circulate obviously on the sidewalks but also on the traffic lanes.

The speed is reduced and limited to 20 km / h for all types of vehicles, i.e. bicycles, mopeds, motorcycles, cars, delivery vehicles, buses ...

All the roads in the area have two-way traffic for cyclists, unless different arrangements have been made by the police authority.

These areas are most often devoid of parking areas to avoid the presence of stationary vehicles.

Motorized users are mainly exposed to parking offenses (bothersome: 135 euros fine or dangerous: 135 euros fine and 3 points), speeding offenses and pedestrian refusal of priority.

For this last offense, know that the fact for the driver, not to respect the rules of priority is punished with a fine of 135 to 750 euros, of a suspension for a duration of three years at most of the driving license and a withdrawal of 6 points.
