The Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, suggested that the member states of the international organization consider the possibility of holding the next session of the General Assembly from a distance by broadcasting the pre-recorded letters to the leaders of the countries.
Reuters quoted Guterres as saying in a message today to UN member states that it is unlikely that heads of state and government from all member states will be able to reach New York in September, noting that the medical community expects the epidemic to continue to spread in the world with varying degrees of severity .
Guterres previously questioned the possibility of the 75th session of the General Assembly starting on schedule on the 15th of next September and said that the United Nations is studying other alternative options including those that depend on digital technology to organize the annual meeting of leaders of the Member States of the United Nations.
