The Nanterre public prosecutor's office opened a preliminary investigation following four complaints from families, which were grouped together for the occasion. She is stupid

At least three nursing homes in Hauts-de-Seine find themselves, this Tuesday, in the crosshairs of justice. The Nanterre prosecution has just opened a preliminary investigation following four complaints against X. They were made after four deaths related to Covid-19, which occurred at the Bel-air retirement home in Clamart, managed by the Korian group, at Villa Beausoleil, in Chaville, as well as in another establishment located in Clichy, since the start of the health crisis.

After studying them in detail, the public prosecutor chose to group these complaints and entrust them to a single investigation service: the brigade for the suppression of delinquency against the person (BRDP).

"It means that the Nanterre prosecution considers these complaints to be anything but fanciful," observes Me Fabien Arakelian, lawyer for several families of victims, in Hauts-de-Seine but also in Mougins (Alpes-Maritimes), where 36 residents of an Korian Ehpad also died.

"The fact of grouping these complaints means that he has taken the full measure of this file as well as its complexity", adds the lawyer who lists 11 Ehpad in France targeted by complaints.

The four complaints filed by the families of the deceased relate to manslaughter, endangering the life of others and failure to assist a person in danger. "They concern the deaths, which occurred between March 25 and April 12, 2020, of an 80-year-old man and three women aged 89 to 96," said the Nanterre prosecution.

Families have "the feeling of being heard"

Cascading deaths, which led to the creation of the association called Collectif 9471… - in reference to the number of deaths recorded in nursing homes, on May 5, the day of the creation of the association. Its president, Olivier Mokiejewski, granddaughter of one of the deceased, today welcomes the decision of the prosecution to consolidate the complaints.

“We finally have the feeling of being heard and we hope that all the light will be shed on the conditions in which these elderly people died because for the moment, our feeling is that our parents died in indifference. "

"We let justice work"

Grouped together within the association, many families criticize the establishments concerned for not having implemented the barrier measures, nor provided the necessary protective equipment, or even for having lied about the state of health of the residents.

The Korian group, contacted at the time of the first complaints, said through its lawyer that it would make "no comments" on the files for which there are criminal proceedings in progress. "As long as there is a complaint, we let the justice system work calmly. We should beware of media trials, "he said then.
