The annual meeting of the World Health Organization (WHO), the first to take place by videoconference since its creation in 1948, ended Tuesday in a climate of heavy uncertainty about its future. The 194 member states, including the United States and China, adopted by consensus a text reaffirming its "leadership role" in times of health crisis and calling for "to launch, as soon as possible, a process of impartial, independent evaluation and complete ” of the response to the Covid-19 epidemic. But this front unit did not succeed in making forget the threats made, a few hours earlier, by Donald Trump.

In a letter to the Director of WHO, the president threatened to perpetuate the freeze on the American budget contribution announced on April 14. He also indicated that his country could renounce its status as a member of the Organization - as it did in 2017 with Unesco.
