Poing - According to the Poing police inspection, a serious traffic accident occurred on Wednesday afternoon at Gruber Strasse at number 60. A cyclist was hit by a truck and fatally injured.

Shortly after 3:30 p.m., the police in Poing received an emergency alarm due to a traffic accident with personal injury. Although the rescue chain started very quickly according to the police and a rescue helicopter was immediately on site, the cyclist died at the scene of the accident.

According to the current investigation, the 81-year-old cyclist had been traveling inland on Gruber Straße when she wanted to change the street at number 60 on a traffic island. At the same time, a 35-year-old truck driver drove the truck on Gruber Straße in the direction of Grub.

Unrestrained over traffic island

According to uninvolved witnesses, the woman drove her bike at slow speed, but unchecked beyond the traffic island onto the lane of the truck. The truck driver tried to avoid the sidewalk and bike path, but could no longer prevent a collision. The cyclist hit the bike at the level of the rear axle of the truck trailer against the left side of the trailer and then fell. She died of severe head injuries.

The public prosecutor commissioned an expert to clarify the exact course of the accident. Gruber Strasse was completely closed during the accident.
