However, affected by the epidemic, his income plummeted by 60 to 70%, and the number of working days for some jobs dropped to "zero". The epidemic of New Coronary Pneumonia has continued, and all industries in Hong Kong have fallen into a cold winter. The latest promotion rate has risen to 5.2%, a 10-year high. Some human resources consultants expect college students to find jobs this year. Mr. Zhang, who graduated from university in December last year, is currently a government contract visitor, but the contract period is only one and a half months. In fact, Mr. Zhang had three part-time jobs at the beginning of graduation. However, affected by the epidemic, his income plummeted by 60 to 70%, and the number of working days for some jobs dropped to "zero". Facing the job search environment under the epidemic, he said bluntly: "Income is an unknown number, but it is a declining unknown number, and the unknown has fallen by much."

According to JIJIS data, the number of full-time graduation vacancies from January to March this year was 12,217, a decrease of nearly 40% compared with the same period last year. In terms of salary, the average salary for full-time graduation positions from January to March this year was RMB 17,592, an increase of nearly 11% compared with the same period last year. The top three industries with the most vacancies from January to March this year are information technology, engineering, banking or financial services.

Three part-time incomes fell 60% to 70%, part of the working hours fell to zero

Mr. Zhang, who majored in biology at the School of Science, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, graduated in December last year. Before graduation, he had engaged in two part-time jobs, including eco-tourists of environmental groups and employees of entertainment game companies, and since then he has engaged in one more part-time job in the construction industry. Mr. Zhang said that he also expected that the three concurrent functions would "fill the schedule" and provide a certain income, so he did not rush to find a job at the beginning of graduation.

However, due to the outbreak of the epidemic, affected by the epidemic and the government's restrictions on the polymerization, Mr. Zhang's work plan was also disrupted, and the total income of three part-time jobs also fell by 60 to 70%. In the past, Mr. Zhang had part-time eco-tour guides for three or four days a month, and six to seven days during peak hours. In late February and late March, almost all eco-tour guides were cancelled, and the number of working days fell to " zero". Coincidentally, the entertainment and game companies that mainly hold group events also suffered a huge drop in business due to the restriction of the gathering. Mr. Zhang's working days also fell to "zero". Although the salary of the construction industry is not low, it can earn 800 yuan to thousands of dollars per day, but the working hours are very unstable. Sometimes the working day of each month can be more than 10 days, sometimes only a few days. Mr. Zhang is worried that even if he has three part-time jobs, if the epidemic situation and the restriction on the order continue, the part-time work will almost need to be suspended.

Although prepared, Mr. Zhang bluntly stated that the employment situation is unclear. In the news reports, many companies have laid off employees and even faced bankruptcy. They will feel "inexplicably sad." (Photo by Lu Yiming)

Since the beginning of April, Mr. Zhang has served as an interviewer with the Census and Statistics Department of the contract, and the contract period is one and a half months, which means that he will soon need to apply for a job again. At present, he has applied for two government contracts. Although he has prepared, Mr. Zhang bluntly stated that the employment situation is unclear. In the news reports, many companies have laid off employees and even faced bankruptcy.

Unknown when the epidemic will end

Mr. Zhang said that there are still many uncertainties in the epidemic. "Everyone has a lot of unknowns about the virus." The current global outbreak is out of control, and "Everyone has a good way to spread the spread of this disease." The epidemic is over.

When the epidemic is over is an "unknown number", and Mr. Zhang said that his "income is an unknown number, but it is a declining unknown number, and the unknown has fallen by much." Although Mr. Zhang has no family burden for the time being, and his family has not urged him to look for a job, he believes that "a stable income is of course important", and he hopes to bear family expenses as soon as possible. Asked how he would respond if the employment situation continued to be severe in the future, Mr. Zhang said that he would "learn more and learn more" while taking advantage of the job gap, including learning investment skills and improving language skills.
