There should be 120 permanent jobs in the center (wages from 11.71 euros gross plus surcharges) and in the area of ​​package delivery by around five partner companies between 300 and 600 jobs as drivers (according to Amazon only permanent employees with wages above the minimum wage).

This was announced by Amazon representative Thorsten Freers on Wednesday in a press conference called by the city of Northeim in the town hall. Word had gotten around a few days ago that Amazon wanted to come to Northeim. On Monday, the company presented its plans to the Northeim Administrative Committee, which was closed to the public.

The distribution center, in which the parcels delivered by truck are sorted by route and then given to the delivery drivers, is to be 7,000 square meters in size. Amazon is a tenant with an extension option for ten years, says Freers.

It is being built by the Frankfurt-based investor "P3-Logistic-Parks", who is also buying the six-hectare property in the west of the industrial area, which is still open to the city. There is also enough space for 400 parking spaces for the transporter vehicles equipped with e-charging stations and for the employees' private cars.

Amazon expects traffic between three and four trucks an hour from 10 p.m. to 9 a.m. Deliveries will be made by the private companies from 0 a.m. to 2 p.m. in 220 trips (up to 575 trips in the run-up to Christmas).

Amazon settles in Northeim: the mayor sees plans as an opportunity

Mayor Simon Hartmann described the settlement as an opportunity for Northeim to economically open a new chapter for the city. Amazon also involves local companies. The project could lead to further settlements in the new industrial area west. The city opened it for 8.7 million euros and hoped for 60 percent subsidies from the country, but the approval is still pending. 

According to Hartmann, the city council should decide on the development plan for the 20-hectare industrial estate west on June 11th. On June 16, the project will be presented to the public in a construction committee meeting and on July 9, the council will decide to sell the six-hectare property to the investor "P3-Logistic-Parks", who is building for Amazon . The city wants to start developing the site this summer.
