(CNN Spanish) - Weeks after the global crisis caused by the covid-19 pandemic began, I began to receive messages from executives who largely based their strategies to generate new clients by joining professional associations and attending their networking events with the order to make yourself known.

This type of dynamic, very effective in the corporate world, is no longer viable in our new reality. Possibly it will not be until a vaccine against the virus is found. The question that I have been asked repeatedly is how to connect effectively through social networks to generate credibility and authority, qualities that most professionals enjoyed in the physical world and that they must now begin to build - from 0- in the virtual world.

The good news, if you identify with this situation, is that your talents and experience have not gone anywhere. Still there. Your prospects or leads and / or connections have not disappeared either. Simply change the channel and communication strategy to start generating new connections.

Below, I share some practical, simple and effective strategies that I have recommended to my clients.

As in any physical networking event, you must present yourself correctly. In the online world the key is to be clear. Communicate who you are and what services you offer. If you cannot communicate it in writing on one line, you will not be successful in your brand positioning and it will be more difficult for potential customers to want to connect with you, as they will not be clear about your referring value.

Your physical office will now be your Facebook fan page and your LinkedIn profile. This platform will allow you to share valuable information for your customer prospects while giving you the great advantage of investing money in your publications so that they are visible only to the people that interest you.

Business no longer takes place in the meeting room but on your Internet portal. Social networks work very well to generate interest in your product or service. However, a prospect who is interested enough in what you offer will want to investigate how formal your company is by looking for your portal. You will navigate to evaluate. Although it is simple, having an Internet portal allows you to place photos that communicate your work experience and achievements. Also, write specialized blogs and publish your biography. Equally important is programming your new page to function as a sales channel.

Take stock of your talents and communicate it strategically to build credibility and authority with your new connections. An example could be: years of experience in the professional field, certifications, licenses, awards and / or accolades received. Select 5 testimonials from clients satisfied with your services and publish them in your "new virtual offices".

Let yourself be seen: People need to see a face to feel confident and be inclined to connect. Remember that the quality and appearance that you project in these photographs communicate the professional experience that you offer.

Be proactive. Create educational events that culminate in connection dynamics. There are teleconference programs that allow you today to organize educational events free of cost that you can carry out virtually. End the event by promoting the exchange of credentials among attendees.
Given the global "new normal" there is no option to wait for the way of doing business to return to the way it was before. It is a risk that no professional should afford to run. Let's continue connecting with strategy!
