SHOULD THE CHURCH OF FRANCE ATTACK THE STATE ON RELIGIOUS LIBERTY?
This Ascension week will remain in the annals of secularism and religions. Confined as it was Monday, the Catholic Church regained its freedom of worship on Saturday . Religions too.
The decision of the Council of State, on May 18, to overturn the decree on deconfinement of May 11 for “serious” and “manifestly illegal” attack on freedom of worship forced the Minister of the Interior, Christophe Castaner, to authorize synagogues, churches, temples and mosques to welcome the faithful from Saturday, May 23, if they wanted. On the condition of respecting a drastic health code and recommending that we wait until June 3 instead.
Jews, Orthodox, Protestants and Muslims are likely to do so. They are in little rush, as are some senior Catholic officials. No one would like to be accused of having participated in a revival of the epidemic.
