In blatant violation of US sanctions on Iran, oil tanker is expected to enter Venezuela's territorial waters in the coming hours, accompanied by warships
The Iranian oil tanker "Fate" is expected to arrive close to Venezuelan territorial waters, with the goal of bringing oil to a country in a severe energy crisis.
The ship is accompanied by Venezuela's naval warships and Venezuelan Army "Bok" anti-aircraft missiles were stationed on the island adjacent to the ship's lane, fearing anti-American action.
This is a blatant and extravagant violation of the sanctions imposed by the United States on Iran by the regime of Nicolas Maduro, ruler of Venezuela, known for his anti-American positions. Iran has helped install new refining jets for the Venezuelan fuel industry, with the goal of restoring the country's fuel production.
US government officials have warned that the United States would consider a response to a provocation, but at present President Trump seems to have given up a direct military response, as the first Iranian ship. Apart from the Fate, four other Iranian tankers are making their way to Venezuela.
Iran has warned the United States that any action against the tankers will provoke Iran's counter-action in the Persian Gulf against American vessels.
Meanwhile, the Venezuelan fuel crisis continues to worsen as its security force clashes with truck drivers queuing up to receive the government fuel allowance. National Guard personnel pointed guns at the drivers who were delighted by the government's incompetence and long waiting times.
