Berlin (dpa) - Nationwide, over 177,700 infections with the corona virus had been registered by Saturday morning (previous day as of 10:15 am: more than 177,200 infections).

At least 8199 infected with the pathogen Sars-CoV-2 have reportedly died nationwide so far (previous day at 10:15 a.m .: 8173). This is the result of an evaluation by the German Press Agency, which takes into account the latest figures from the federal states.

According to the latest information from the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), the number of reproductions, or R-value for short, was 0.85 on Friday (data status May 22, 00:00). This means that each infected person infects a little less than another person on average. The R value shows the infection process approximately one and a half weeks beforehand.

Since mid-May, the RKI has also been giving a so-called 7-day R. It refers to a longer period and is therefore less subject to daily fluctuations. According to RKI estimates, this value was 0.91. It shows the infection process 8 to 16 days ago.

According to further estimates by the RKI, around 159,900 people in Germany survived the infection. As in other countries, experts also expect a high number of unreported cases in Germany.

According to the statistics of the federal states, Bavaria has particularly high numbers of registered infections with more than 46,300 cases and at least 2,372 deaths, North Rhine-Westphalia with more than 36,900 cases and at least 1,546 deaths and Baden-Württemberg with more than 34,300 confirmed cases and at least 1,692 deaths. The time when a new daily status is reported varies from state to state as well as from day to day.

Based on 100,000 inhabitants, Bavaria has the most infections with a value of 354.2. The national average was 213.7. However, the number of tests carried out per 100,000 inhabitants varies in the federal states.
