The Civil Aviation Department has conducted a preliminary investigation into the incident. The prescription stated that the FedEx MD11 freighter (flight number FX9741) was descending from the airport ’s south runway (25L) at approximately 6.15 pm yesterday. At the same time, a Hong Kong Airlines' A330 passenger aircraft (flight number HX765) to Bangkok is taking off.
Before the FedEx cargo plane landed, the crew found that the aircraft that had taken off had not completely left the runway, and decided to cancel the landing and go round. The Hong Kong Airlines passenger plane took off normally without being affected, while the FedEx cargo aircraft entered the field again after completing the go-around procedure and landed safely.
The Civil Aviation Department pointed out that preliminary information showed that when the FedEx cargo plane began to go round and climb in the air, the two aircraft had a minimum distance of more than 1.7 kilometers, which is the shortest distance between the two aircraft.
