Donald Trump will give a press conference on China on Friday, the President announced Thursday, without giving further details on its content.

The statement from the Oval Office comes in an explosive climate: the Republican billionaire has raised his voice in recent weeks by accusing China of being responsible for the spread of the new coronavirus across the planet, and has promised retaliation.

On Wednesday, the American diplomat Mike Pompeo also affirmed that Hong Kong no longer enjoyed the promised autonomy vis-à-vis Beijing, and therefore could not continue to enjoy trade privileges with the United States.
On the same day, Congress passed a bill to punish Chinese officials accused of "mass internment" of Uighur Muslims.
