The paths are cleared, the gondolas and taverns are cleaned out. Now the mountain hikers can come to the accommodations in the Karwendel.

Mittenwald - The picture has a symbolic character, so to speak: On Wednesday, Brunnsteinhüttenwirt Hans-Peter Gallenberger and his helpers Peppi Fütterer, Hans Brennauer and Christian Brauer cleared the via ferrata on the Karwendel at a good 2000 meters below the Sulzleklammspitz. An exhausting job year after year. But the sweaty drudgery has paid off: the high alpine path from Brunnstein over to the Karwendel cable car mountain station is completely passable just in time for the start of Pentecost holidays.

According to Stefan Adam, who is responsible for the routes in the Mittenwald Alpine Club section, the via ferrata up to the West Karwendelspitz (2365 meters) is to be opened in the middle of next week. At the same time, after a long Corona break tomorrow, the Karwendelbahn will start operating again - of course under strict hygiene regulations.

Since the border to Austria is still closed, tourism experts assume that there will also be a rush of people seeking relaxation in the region between Simetsberg and Wetterstein. In the mountain huts you are prepared for it as best you can. "Look there," says Hüttenwirt Gallenberger in optimizing his purpose. Yesterday, he and his colleagues received the last instructions from the German Alpine Club via video conference.

In the meantime, not only on the Brunnstein, but also in the Mittenwald and Dammkar huts again - restricted operation. On tomorrow's Pentecost Saturday, Birgit and Stefan Müller will start an extraordinary mountain season in the Hochlandhütte. The Wallgauer already has a little mixed feelings: "I hope that the guests abide by the rules." Due to the tightness in the camps, however, the strict requirements in the DAV accommodation cannot be met. "Therefore, there will be no overnight stays until further notice," says Stefan Müller. "We therefore ask you to refrain from making reservation inquiries."

According to Rolf Graich from the Mittenwald Alpine Club section, the Krinner-Kofler hut and the economy in the Vereiner-Almhütte remain completely closed - all June. The Soiernhaus will also be closed by the end of June.
