If you can't defeat the enemy, hug him. The free voters in the district council could have acted according to this motto when they served the - decimated - CSU faction as partners for the next six years. If it wasn’t a love marriage, it’s a pretty well thought-out alliance anyway. That the incumbent candidacy with Hans Schreiner in a rather short-lived coalition with Greens and Free Voters was a bit tricky for incumbent Martin Bayerstorfer.

For one thing, the new community is worthwhile for the CSU. She can now be relatively sure that she can complete the projects that are important to her without a majority of the committee. In terms of content, the two groups were never far apart anyway. In addition, in the tough budget negotiations to be expected due to the corona tax losses, the numerous FW mayors can be brought down to a common denominator more quickly. Bayerstorfer knows that he can prepare for a relatively comfortable fourth term. Quite different from Erding's OB Max Gotz, who just had to experience painfully what it feels like without a majority.

But the coalition is also worthwhile for the FW. It can celebrate itself as a co-designer of the district in the next election campaign at the latest. With the third district administrator Rainer Mehringer and Erding's deputy mayor Petra Bauernfeind, the free men also held two important positions - also a good prerequisite if top positions are available again in 2026.

At the same time, the AfD is frozen, whose five votes are no longer important. It is a good thing.

Last but not least, the citizen benefits. In times of need such as the pandemic, an actionable policy is crucial.
