There is no return to everyday life as it used to be. "But fear is no longer in the foreground," says Dr. Matthias Bohnenberger.

Bad Tölz - Many of the new processes have now become established. In an interview with the Tölz courier, the Tölz doctor and chairman of the “Tölz Family Doctor” association gives some insights into the everyday life of medical practices that have had turbulent times since the outbreak of the corona crisis.

The most turbulent time was the beginning of the crisis in mid-March, reports Bohnenberger. “He made up to 170 calls a day”. Many unsettled people who feared that they had contracted the corona virus sought advice from their family doctor. Where there was reasonable suspicion of Covid-19, the practice team had initiated tests in the drive-in station at Flinthhöhe or by the home visit service, in which he himself was involved.

The climax was 170 calls a day

However, there were also situations in which patients with corona symptoms found their way into the practice - although this should be avoided by prior request. "They were then taken to the balcony and smeared themselves there," said Bohnenberger. In fact, he treated some people with Covid-19, the doctor said. As a rule, it was about Ischgl returnees.

At the same time, the practice team tried to equip itself. Masks, signs, protective coats were initially very difficult to obtain. "We were just the last to order a carpenter from a plexiglass window to protect the carpenter." However, the plan to offer video consultation failed because there were nowhere else in the world where more webcams could be found.

Many patients returned to Ischgl

Bohnenberger reports that a bit of normalcy has now returned to everyday practice - although under a completely different guise than before Corona. The hygiene rules make many processes a little more cumbersome and lengthy. There are only two chairs left in the waiting room due to the distance rules. "The other patients have to take a seat in the corridor or in the stairwell," says the doctor. According to Bohnenberger, many consultations still take place on the phone. Many patients still had to be persuaded to come to the office for the necessary examinations.

Hygiene rules make some processes more cumbersome

"The practice is one of the safest places ever," assures the doctor. Because strict hygiene rules would be implemented here. Patients who complain of respiratory problems would be consistently separated from the others. Your appointments would be postponed to the end of the office hours to avoid contact with other visitors to the practice. "It is definitely not the case that someone is coughing in the waiting room."
