Hong Kong brands may not be made in Hong Kong

This K Kwong test includes 14 popular Hong Kong brand masks including Watsons, HKTVmall, Protector, CareHK, OxyAIR, Mask Factory and Good Mask; however, please note that not all Hong Kong brands are produced locally, such as Love Home, Upstairs and Protector is produced in China. K Kwong pointed out that in fact, even if the Chinese manufacturing has good quality, it must be cut and tested one by one to evaluate the level.

K Kwong pointed out that when testing masks before, they would check several parts: first of all, pull the mask's ear cords to see if they are firm, because if you wear a mask, it will be very troublesome to break the rope. Next, the quality of the most important middle layer "meltblown" among the three layers of mask materials (if there are no small holes and electrostatic performance) will be tested. It turns out that in addition to "filtration rate", "breathability" is also an important test item. Masks with poor ventilation will be very uncomfortable when worn and are not good masks. In the past, K Kwong will test both the surface "water pressure" (to prevent the infiltration of droplets) and the inner layer "water absorption" (absorb the moisture emitted by the mouth and nose), but most of the masks in recent months are very good Therefore, detailed testing is rarely done, so this time it is not included in the test items.

Two meltblown fabrics

K Kwong continued to explain the melt-blown fabric. There are two types of mask melt-blown fabrics on the market, one is the general "common melt-blown fabric", and the other is the "composite melt-blown fabric". The above unqualified meltblown fabrics are combined into one to reach the standard meltblown fabrics. A good meltblown cloth should theoretically not have too many small holes (only a few at most). Even if there are a few small holes, don't worry, if the mask is static enough, it can adsorb virus bacteria on the mask. And because the mask always has a top and bottom cloth, it is very difficult to wear three layers, so K Kwong believes that it is acceptable to have up to 5 small holes in the melt-blown cloth.

Three standards of masks

Before the test, K Kwong once again explained the three efficiency standards of general masks, namely BFE (Bacterial Filtration Efficiency), PFE (Particle Filtration Efficiency) and VFE (Virus Filtration Efficiency). BFE is for particles that block 3 microns; PFE is for particles that block 0.1 microns; VFE is for particles that are 0.1 to 5 microns (usually the average is 2.8 microns, so there is no need to look at VFE with BFE). Is PFE the most important when buying? Of course, the higher the blocking efficiency of PFE, the best protection effect, but this time the new corona pneumonia virus transmission mainly depends on the attachment of droplets, and the size of the droplets are at least 5 microns or more, so the general BFE efficiency of 95% or more is enough .
