People's Congress representatives do not want to delay legislation

Tan Yaozong mentioned that the "Hong Kong National Security Legislative United Front" has collected millions of signatures in support of the establishment of the National Security Law of the Hong Kong District. He believes this reflects the public's concerns about the "black storm" situation and economic downturn in the past year, hoping that the legislation will be stable society.

Regarding the specific timing of the legislation, Xinhua News Agency released the official full text of the work report of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress yesterday, referring to the “accelerating advancement” of relevant legislation to safeguard the national security system. Tan Yaozong said that this is not a specific timetable, but indeed many people's deputies believe that legislation should not be delayed and should be completed as soon as possible.

As to whether it will be discussed and passed at the regular meeting of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress at the end of this month, Tan Yaozong believes that it is difficult to be determined at present, but there are indeed laws that can be completed in one meeting. Tan Yaozong has heard a lot of positive and negative opinions on whether foreign judges can try national security law-related cases in the future, and has no position at present.

Tan Yaozong recently pointed out that there are opinions that can be posted on the NPC website, but the host mentioned that there is no place to leave comments on the National Security Law. Tan Yaozong said that the general practice of the NPC website is to open the message after the draft is released, but understands the concern of the Hong Kong public and will write to the NPC Secretary-General today, suggesting to open the message early.

On May 28th, the Third Session of the Thirteenth National People's Congress passed 2878 votes in favor, 1 against and 6 abstentions, and passed the "Hong Kong version of the National Security Law." (Xinhua News Agency)

After the National Security Law was enacted, whether the slogan called "End of One-Party Dictatorship" will be regarded as an offence has attracted attention recently. Tan Yaozong responded that he did not even have a draft at present, and would not comment lightly on an organization’s behavior, but believed that the Department of Justice would make prosecution decisions depending on the overall circumstances of each case.

I was asked again whether I would persuade people not to call the slogan "End One-Party Dictatorship" again. Tan Yaozong did not respond directly, but he said he would continue to "bitter the heart" and advise Hong Kong people not to do anything to split the country because of the legislative spirit of the National Security Law It is a precaution. If someone continues to promote "Hong Kong independence", they are forced to resort to punishment.

He also pointed out that to promote Hong Kong independence is to push Hong Kong to a dead end, and to engage in another set of "one country, one system", criticizing some people for thinking that they have foreign support: "Thinking that there is a foreign backing? Sighing," thinking that foreigners will only Use them.
