Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias reiterated that the Turkish regime's intention to explore for oil on the Greek continental shelf in the eastern Mediterranean is a provocative step, indicating that his country is ready to face this provocation if the Recep Tayyip Erdogan regime decides to implement it.
A statement issued by Dindyas said today, according to Agence France-Presse, that granting Ankara the Turkish Oil Company a license to conduct new exploration operations in the Greek continental shelf area is part of a series of moves by the neighboring country that is gradually trying to extract the sovereign rights of Greece. It is legitimate to affect Greek sovereignty, which is based on international law and the law of the sea.
Last year, the European Union approved a series of political and financial sanctions against the Turkish regime in response to the continuation of illegal excavations carried out by it in the Cypriot territorial waters, despite warnings and calls to stop it.
