United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres called for an investigation into police violence in the United States after the murder of an African American citizen in Minneapolis.
"We have witnessed in the past days cases of violence by the police ... An investigation must be opened in all of these cases," Guterres spokesman Stefan Dujarric said during a press conference, noting that the authorities must exercise restraint in their dealings with the demonstrators.
According to his spokesperson, Guterres also expressed concern about the attacks on journalists in recent days in the United States.
Amnesty International yesterday called on the American authorities to desist from using violence against demonstrators during the protests in the United States, which call for justice in the case of the police killing of citizen George Floyd.
Floyd, 46, was killed on the 25th of this month in Minneapolis, Minnesota, after a police officer strangled him by pressing his knee on his neck for more than eight minutes in the latest incident in a series of killings targeting people of African descent by police in the states United.
