  • In Munich , a new regulation for the outdoor pools is to be abolished, which has been in force since last year.
  • The Munich public utilities see the pilot project " Free entry to the outdoor pool " as a failure.
  • The city council should now decide which rules apply when the outdoor pools reopen after the Corona mandatory break *.

Munich: Open air pools should open in a few days - But regulation will be a thorn in the side of many

Update of May 29, 1:20 p.m .: Stadtwerke has published extensive information on the opening of the swimming pools in Munich. Accordingly, from June 8th, several pools will open their gates: among them the Schyrenbad, Dantebad, Bad Georgenschwaige and the Prinzregentenbad. The summer pools Michaelibad, Westbad, Ungererbad are to follow on Saturday, June 13th. It is still open whether and when the Maria Einsiedel natural pool will open. The indoor pools and saunas will remain closed for the time being.

Corona in Munich: Open swimming pools - strict regulations for visitors

The familiar contact and distance rules also apply to outdoor pools before and in the summer pools. There is still no requirement to wear mouth and nose protection in summer pools. However, the SWM recommends keeping a mouth and nose guard within reach - for example for the entrance area or for the use of the outdoor pool catering.

Corona in Munich: Outdoor pools open again - but there is a big catch

The corona crisis brings a big change to the opening of the pools: a spontaneous visit to the outdoor pool should not be possible in hot weather. The summer pools have restrictions on the number of visitors, based on the size of the sunbathing area and the water surface. Because every swimmer should have so much space in and around the pool that he can safely keep the necessary distance from others. To ensure this, the Munich baths are introducing a reservation system: everyone can reserve tickets for themselves and a maximum of five other people three to four days in advance. The reservation system will be activated at the end of next week.

Corona in Munich: children and teenagers no longer free to swim

First report from May 25, 2020:

It was an experiment . And it went wrong. At least that's what the city council thinks . The free visit to the outdoor pool for children and adolescents up to the age of 18 is likely to be buried by the city council today. Reason: It would mean too much loss of revenue in Corona times . Furthermore, according to Stadtwerke (SWM), there were too many negative incidents with problematic clientele in the previous year.

Munich: Many negative incidents in swimming pools last year

In the pre-season, people up to the age of 18 didn't have to pay anything. Children up to six have always had free admission. The response to this gift from the city was great. The great interest shown by the children and young people in the pilot project "Free entry to the open-air swimming pool" is certainly positive, according to the balance sheet of the municipal utility company. On the one hand. On the other hand, it obviously also attracted an audience that behaved badly.

According to SWM , around 30 serious incidents occurred in the eight Munich summer pools from the beginning of June to the end of July last year alone . These included fights between large youth groups, disrespectful and reckless behavior towards other bathers , threats and harassment , mass gatherings, exhibition fights and physical assault . In part, the police had to intervene with a large contingent. The template for the city council says: "With free admission, a new public, social space and meeting point for young people has been created in the baths." Bathing and swimming often played a subordinate role, "in many cases the young people had none Swimwear with you ”. Other side effects were a high level of garbage on the lawn and a crowding out of regular guests.

Munich: Baths issued 54 bans on minors in 2019

The Munich baths issued 54 bans on minors in 2019 . For comparison: In 2018, the year with a high number of visitors, there were eight. In May and June 2019, the share of under-18-year-olds in the outdoor pools was 32 percent, according to the municipal utility, and 27 percent over the entire season. Around 271,000 children and adolescents from six to 18 benefited from free admission in summer 2019. The deficit for the municipal utilities was just under 1.7 million euros. Almost half of this was expenditure for security services . Because the effects of the corona pandemic are not yet foreseeable, the municipal utilities recommend suspending free entry for this season.

Munich: is there a compromise for children up to 12 years?

But a compromise solution seems possible. At today's meeting of the city council, the CSU will introduce an amendment that children up to the age of 12 may continue to use the baths free of charge. CSU parliamentary group leader Manuel Pretzl says: The problems arose with young people . But many families will not be able to go on vacation in the summer. Or there are money worries about short-time work . We want to support these people. "

It's hard to imagine that the new green-red city hall government will completely shut itself off from this move. Basically, it was a good idea to let children and teenagers go to the outdoor pool for free , says Green City Councilor Anja Berger, for example. There are ways to solve problems in a de-escalating manner. Berger considers the representation in the city council proposal to be "very general and very negative". Will the Greens support the CSU application? This discussion is still in flux, says Berger.

Meanwhile, the Munich baths are preparing for the late start of the season . It will probably be so far on June 8 , but initially only for the outdoor pools . The minimum clearances must then be maintained there as everywhere . Swimming may only be possible in one direction - and leaving the pool at clearly marked entry and exit points . However, the corona rules of the state government have not yet been fully established.

SWM is said to have a finished concept in its drawer. But it was not yet ripe for saying. Bathing director Christine Kugler says: “We made all the preparations and developed a very extensive hygiene and operating concept. Now we are waiting for the official confirmation of the start date and for the exact specifications and requirements for the bathroom operation. "

After the corona loosening, life returns to the taverns - but it is unusual for everyone. The hosts are unsettled and complain about "very high costs".

A youth coach from TSV Maccabi Munich is insulted badly during a walk. IKG President Charlotte Knobloch is not only very concerned about this incident.

For some restaurateurs, the opening after the corona forced break was a blessing. Not for a Munich innkeeper, he has now written a hearty brand letter.
