In order to save themselves from ruin, stand operator Jacquelin Eberhardt wants to be allowed to sell her almonds in summer too. In doing so, she fights against city authorities' windmills.

In order to save themselves from ruin, stand operator Jacquelin Eberhardt wants to be allowed to sell her almonds in summer too. In doing so, she fights against city authorities' windmills.

  • Due to the Corona crisis, Standl operator Jacquelin Eberhardt's income from business at markets and festivals is lost
  • Eberhardt therefore wants to sell their goods at their winter stand at the PEP in Neuperlach
  • At KVR, however, her plan falls on deaf ears.

Munich - For Jacquelin Eberhardt and her family, the corona lockdown is a real nightmare . The third generation of the Eberhardts operates two confectionery huts in Munich . There they sell roasted almonds and nuts, stomach bread, popcorn, chocolate specialties and other sweets. In the smaller booth, Eberhardt works with her husband, in the larger mother and sister. With Corona, the small business has water up to its neck . "We have already sold smaller replacement devices so that we don't have to give up."

"Could this save our existence and our life"

The small stand on the urban area in front of the PEP shopping center in Neuperlach has been standing for 30 years . Always from early September to April. In the summer time, the Eberhardts then go to various markets and club festivals for boys, traditional costumes and others. But this year they all fell victim to Corona. "Everything gone, everything canceled," says Eberhardt. In her distress she now clings to a straw and wants to set up the stand at the PEP again , which she dismantled at the end of March in accordance with the contract. If she could also sell there in the summer months, "this could save our existence and our lives," believes the self-employed. "There is a lot of flow and people know us."

But even though the area in Neuperlach is empty and the shopping center would have no problem with the stand, it does not get approval from the district administration department . Because of a clause in the special use contract that the stall operator signs with the city every year. Accordingly, their sales booth is a seasonal business with autumn-winter goods and that does not get a summer contract . The same with the second booth at the booth in Schwabing.

SPD City Councilor: "Turn a blind eye in times of crisis"

“What the woman sells doesn't really matter to me, the main thing is that she sells and earns something,” says Perlach's district committee chair Thomas Kauer (CSU), shaking his head, whom the stand operator's call for help now reached. With a view to the “Summer in the City” project, one could simply suspend the passage for this year. In times of crisis, one has to turn a blind eye, says the SPD city councilor Lena Odell from Ramersdorf. In general, the world will not go under if you can also buy roasted almonds in July.

For Jacquelin Eberhardt, the city's great announcements to support the showmen and stall operators sound more like mockery . "We are at the very end of the food chain, probably only the big and well-known operators of the Oktoberfest will be helped," the stand operator is frustrated.

The consequences of the corona crisis are particularly hard for confectionery dealer Stefan Vogler from Inning - the cancellation of the Oktoberfest particularly affects the 53-year-old.

The Dachau Volksfest is canceled due to Corona. In order to still have that feeling, three Dachau city councilors proposed a “drive-in folk festival”.
