The Social Security deficit should reach a " historic " level of 52.2 billion euros in 2020, significantly more than the 41 billion euros announced at the end of April, public accounts minister Gérald Darmanin said on Tuesday. The last deficit record reached 28 billion euros in 2010 after the 2008 crisis.
" As I speak, we are at a deterioration of 52.2 billion euros, that is to say that we have a degradation (...) of just over 10 billion euros ”compared to the government's latest forecast, said Gérald Darmanin during a hearing in the National Assembly. " Obviously these are very worrying figures ," he added.
