"Racism is unacceptable, we must do better," the US Ambassador to the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Mike Hammer, wrote on Wednesday in a lengthy statement about the death of George Floyd where he quotes Martin Luther King.

"The system has failed to protect one of our citizens as it has too often done against so many African-Americans," added the ambassador in his statement on his Twitter account, taken up on the account of l American Embassy. "I share your grief, I share your anger, I share your indignation at this death and I share your desire for justice," he added to the many shocked Congolese who arrested him on social networks.

"An injustice wherever it threatens justice everywhere"

"An injustice wherever it threatens justice everywhere," he continues, claiming to quote civil rights leader Martin Luther King, murdered in 1968. "When we, as Americans, deviate from the ideals of freedom and equality that founded our nation, we must commit (...) to identify our flaws, to correct our trajectory, " adds the representative of Donald Trump, who regularly pleads for the fight against impunity and corruption in the DRC. "As we strive to perfect our American democracy and achieve our ideals, we will continue to seek the same commitment from our friends and partners around the world," concludes this fervent support for the reforms initiated by the new Congolese president Félix Tshisekedi.
