How is summer in Germany? The first long-term forecasts look ahead to the months of June, July and August. There could be extreme weather!

  • The weather * is said to go crazy in May.
  • Instead of a blissful month, experts even expect snow * .
  • Because it falls on the ice saints, the weather could blow capers all year round.

Update from May 26, 2020: The daswetter.com portal addresses long-term weather trends. The US weather service NOAA does not predict exceptionally hot summer months. But even if it is not a special hot summer, there could be another fatal development: According to this trend, the rainfall deficit in Germany should widen further. It would be the third summer in a row with too little rainfall.

The European weather service ECMWF sees it similarly. Accordingly, it should be too dry in June to August. So there is also a drought summer in this calculation! On average, it should be about 0.5 to 1 degree warmer per month than the climate average. Another weather forecast for summer 2020 is now available. This even scares a weather expert.

The #May 2020 brought only half of the normal amount of rain so far. According to the calculations of the European #Weather Service, the #June 2020 should also be too dry! @ECMWF pic.twitter.com/9WqUzM303n

The summer forecast for Germany - A weather phenomenon is likely to fail this year

Update from May 21, 2020:  Around two weeks before the start of the summer weather forecast wetter.com meteorologist Corinna Borau takes a first look at summer weather 2020.

"Of course nothing is set in stone at all. But the calculations of the long-term models currently indicate that the Central European summer will be too warm and too dry again this year. ”The following indications suggest that:“ Since the beginning of the year, we have been up 1.15 degrees in global mean temperature. In addition, the British meteorological service Met Office is already predicting that the deviation could be 1.1 degrees for the whole year. ”This would not only be the second warmest start of the year, but - according to Borau - also be in place after 2016 two of the warmest years ever. The difference to the record year 2016:

“A strong El Niño, that is, a warm surface temperature of the Pacific as a heat source, is not expected this year. But the chances for another record year are very high. The American weather service NOAA even sees it at 75 percent, ”explains the expert.

Update of May 20, 2020: The summer of 2020 will again warmer than average to be. In the north, drought threatens again (see update of May 13). However, it should not be comparable to the hot summer of 2019 . According to Wetter.com,  the long-term model of the American weather service NOAA sees  summer 2020 in Germany as slightly above average. In June and July the deviations are 0.5 to 1 degree above the long-term average. The August , however, was calculated average temperature controlled.

While it is supposed to be dry in the north, June in southern Germany in particular could be dominated by rain , more often than outdoor friends would like. In general, June is the wettest month in Germany with an average of 85 liters per square meter . This is mainly due to the summer thunderstorms .

At Pentecost we could be hit by a "spoil-game" low that spoils the holidays.

The first summer forecasts are there: According to experts, "more massive problem" is looming

Update May 13, 2020: The wetter.de portal also looks ahead and makes a first summer forecast. From the perspective of these experts, northern Germany could experience a "more massive water problem" in the coming months  . It doesn't matter how wet the summer gets, the drought problem is already there and has built up over the past two years. The situation was exacerbated by the sunny and dry April. According to the long-term forecast of the American weather service NOAA, June and July in the north should also become too dry, only in the south there could be more rain.

According to wetter.de, a new heat record (which is currently 42.6 degrees for Germany) is “pretty much excluded” . The heat wave 2019 was just too extraordinary for that.

Meanwhile, two weather experts make violent accusations against the German Weather Service: "Has nothing to do with a serious measurement."

Weather in Germany: summer forecast makes you listen - 40-degree hurdle could fall several times

First report May 7, 2020 - The next few days will lure us outdoors with sunshine and temperatures up to 27 degrees in southern Germany. The north of the country has to adjust to maximum temperatures of 17 degrees - but nowhere does precipitation spoil the happy month of May.

The U-turn - away from summer feelings, back towards winter - then follows on Mother's Day of all things. The first storms can discharge on Saturday evening, but it gets really uncomfortable on Sunday with cold temperatures and wind * , as wetter.de reports. And the Ice Saints begin on Monday.

Warm spring weather with maximum values of up to 25 degrees predominates until the weekend. Then a cold front with thunderstorms causes the temperatures to plummet. Even snow is possible. https://t.co/vBwEnPGGXn#Wetter #Schnee #Mai #Eisheiligen

Long-term forecast for the weather in Germany: ice saints separate winter and summer

Monday to Friday (May 11th to 15th) will be marked by Mamertus, Pankratius, Servatius, Bonifatius and Sophie. In old farmers' calendars: Before these days in mid-May , nothing should be sown - because frosts can now destroy everything again. The good news from the people knowledge: Are survived this day, threaten w eder snow or ice .

This coincides with the predictions for this year : As wetter.de  continues to write, it will actually be uncomfortable next week. Especially in the night of Tuesday, the snow in southern Germany can even reach the lowlands. But from the middle of the week, the temperatures climb to 20 degrees and more. Wetteronline calculates until at least 21.5. then no longer with rainfall.

Weather in Germany: It will be like this from the end of May

If you follow the rules of the farmers' calendar, then from the end of May to the end of June, we mainly have warm days, interrupted by occasional foggy days. Only in the following period until mid-July should it be changeable with rain and sun.

According to wetter.com, however, the temperatures should already be 0.5 to 1 degree above the average. And this despite the fact that cold days - the so-called sheep cold - are looming before the start of summer on June 20.

We have to adjust to an extreme weather situation afterwards - because the statements from the farmers' calendar and the weather experts of our day coincide. Summer 2020 could bring us temperatures beyond 40 degrees several times - especially in the so-called dog days between July 23 and August 23 - making 2020 the second warmest year since weather records started. Weather experts are particularly worried about northern Germany. There could be far too little rainfall here.

A look at wetter.com's temperature table shows how strongly summer now deviates from the calendar mean : While the average temperature was 16.3 degrees between 1961 and 1990, it was already 19.2 degrees in summer 2019 - and that should be in 2020 still to be surpassed.

How will the weather in Germany be on Father's Day? A meteorologist made a clear announcement. But already at the weekend, a change in the weather in Germany should cause a “drop in temperature”.
