Almost a year ago, Greta Thunberg left school to devote herself entirely to the fight against the climate - for now. The 17-year-old will set new priorities from autumn.

  • Greta Thunberg has devoted a whole year to fighting climate change.
  • Now the activist * apparently wants to cut back: she will be returning to school in late summer.
  • In any case, the Corona crisis had recently significantly reduced its plans.

Stockholm / Zurich - The corona virus has also thwarted climate activist Greta Thunberg : Actually, the now world-famous youngster wanted to devote himself to the fight against climate change for a good year - not least with trips and demo participation in her own Thing.

Greta Thunberg: Back to school - activist ends her climate year

This (physical) commitment has been limited for a few weeks. Greta Thunberg * fell ill with Covid19 herself, the contact and travel restrictions did the rest.

Nevertheless, Thunberg does not want to extend her year of activism : the 17-year-old wants to go back to school from late summer . "Yes, Greta plans to go to school again in autumn," the Swiss gaze quotes a spokesman for Thunberg. The school year in Sweden always starts in the middle or end of August. The educational institutions in the Scandinavian country have so far not been closed for pandemic reasons.

Greta Thunberg: One year off after compulsory schooling - now it continues despite Corona

This announcement arrives surprisingly and in itself not. In early summer 2019, the young activist had finished ninth grade - and thus left compulsory schooling behind. From the outset, only one year of “time out” was planned. Now Thunberg should continue the school career in a secondary school.

The school-free year was hardly a relaxing one: Thunberg made plenty of headlines, from a well-received speech by the United Nations (to be found in the word run at Merkur.de *) to appearances in South America or at the World Economic Forum in Davos. Observers were even worried about the health of the teenager - albeit by remote diagnosis from Germany.

From the air battle can be the young Swede, however unlikely. It wasn't until the Pentecost weekend that she caused a sensation with criticism of German politics.

Today is a shameful day for Europe, as we open up a brand new coal power plant. We have signed up to lead the way to avoid a climate disaster - and yet this the signal we send to the rest of the world?
