Italy today re-opened its borders to European tourists in a new step towards returning the situation to normal after a long closure due to the Corona epidemic.

"The country is back in life" at a time when international flights to Venice, Florence and Naples have resumed, and are accelerating to Rome and Milan, the French Press Agency quoted Minister of Regional Affairs Francesco Boccia as saying.

It is expected that about 30 international flights will arrive today at Fiumicino Airport in the capital, Rome, while Alitalia announced the resumption of flights with Spain, the first flight between Rome and Barcelona organized in the morning.

Today also marks the resumption of freedom of movement between the twentieth regions of Italy from north to south in a procedure that the Italians were eagerly awaiting and summed up by the press under the title "Italy Free from Closure".

The new Corona virus claimed the largest number of its victims in the United States, followed by Britain and Italy, which recorded 33,530 deaths out of 233,515 infections.
