The tools involved include joint protection gloves

The defendant Chen Jingfeng (19-year-old PolyU student) denied that on December 9 last year, in a public place outside the Cape of Good Hope Building in Nathan Road, Mong Kok, he carried an offensive weapon, namely a folding knife and a card knife, without reasonable excuse. He was also charged on the same day with possession of tools suitable for illegal use, namely a pair of five-knuckle protective gloves and a pen-shaped glass blaster, with the intention of using it for illegal purposes.

Police officer Wu Dehui stated that he patrolled in Mong Kok by police car that night, and there were boos and shouts as he passed by. At about 10:30, he got off the bus at the junction of Nathan Road and Shandong Street and saw the defendant wearing a mask. There were 7 or 8 people beside him. The defendant refused to answer his question, and Wu Sui searched him and seized the items in question from his waist bag and rucksack. He did not warn the accused.

Lawyers say the blaster has other uses

Defense counsel Yao Bencheng pointed out that the glass blaster has other uses, such as writing. Under cross-examination, Wu admitted that it would not take a lot of time to try the tool, but he did not try to write because of "no intention" at the time, so he wondered whether he could write. He also agreed that the defendant had no intention of taking out the items in the case.

The policeman said he did not know that the defendant was a college student

The defense also stated that when Wu's written confession referred to the defendant and about eight people beside him, he only said that they had gathered. The defense stated that the defendant did not shout, and Wu disagreed. The defense again questioned that he did not accept background testimony. Wu responded by taking only warning confessions and denied that the school had taught to ask background testimony. Wu knew that the defendant was a transport worker, but did not know that the other party was also a college student, and admitted that he did not investigate the relationship between the defendant and the person next to him.

The trial continues in the afternoon.
