The boy arrived on the beach yesterday evening, along with a group of boys and girls. At one point, after rescuers had already left the beach, four of the young men entered the water. A surfer who noticed the distressed four called them out, but after only three of the boys reached the shore, he quickly summoned rescue forces to help locate the fourth boy.

The troops began searches that continued throughout the night, but with no results so far. It is estimated that the boy was caught in a whirlwind that swept him into a pit.

Police say they are continuing "intensive searches for the boy who was swept into the sea yesterday in Ashdod and apparently drowned. Participants in the search - Israeli police's naval policing ships, a helicopter from the Israeli air force and a unit of the Israeli police rescue squad."

In the missing boy's family, details have been updated, and his relatives have come to the army set up at the beach.
